Shepherd's Column
By Dr. Olatunji Ogunyemi, President of SFM.

Shepherd Food Ministry (SFM) operates within the remit of Millennium Development Goal 1 (MDG 1, that is, poverty and hunger) and aims to relieve food poverty through sustainable and eco-friendly farm project. SFM has been feeding 130 families of widows and disabled in Ibadan since December 2006.
SFM aims to help alleviate the scourge of chronic hunger by empowering beneficiaries. Our hands-on experience and survey reveal that we can make immediate impact by establishing solar powered storage facilities including cold room and dry storage. We are also installing two solar dryers to process farm produce before storage. This post harvest infrastructure will enable us to network with local farmers to preserve their farm produce and reduce the current 70 percent post harvest loss. The benefits to the farmers include steady income, awareness of post harvest crop handling, sustainability and eco-friendly farming.
SFM will establish three outlets for the food in storage, that is, farm shop for beneficiaries to buy food at a reasonable price; short term storage to provide food support for beneficiaries during the time of their capacity building; and emergency storage to respond to outbreak of food crisis in Nigeria. The benefits to our beneficiaries include price stability, job creation and capacity building.

Please respond to SFM's Feed the hungry on your birthday apeal! There are hundreds of reasons why it would be great for you to feed the hungry in Nigeria and Africa, but here are just a few:
" 50 million people (1 in 3 Nigerians) go to bed without food.
" 852 million people are hungry around the world.
" It's a human right not to starve in the 21st century.

We hope you will get involved to help SFM raise vital funds for the farm project to feed the hungry. Businesses and corporate bodies are encouraged to sponsor any aspect of this venture. SFM welcomes volunteers with skills in relevant areas of its operation.
